SERGEANT JOHN HENLEY
John is a Police Sergeant in Devon and Cornwall Police. John works as a Patrol Sergeant in Torbay working under the South Devon BCU. He was called to McDonalds in Union Street a few months ago, where a young man had collapsed in the bathroom. John recognised immediately that the man was not breathing and immediately began CPR. The paramedics arrived a few minutes later and said that the young man would have died if it were not for Johns quick actions outside of his job role. The man went on to make a full recovery in hospital. John started his career as a Police Community Support Officer at the age of 17 and then went on to join as a Police Officer a year later. He has worked all across South Devon and has spent the last few years working as a Sergeant on Frontline Response Teams.
MARTIN COPEMAN
Martin is one of the clinical and medical tutors at Torbay Hospital. There have been many occasions where he has helped out when there has been an accident and on one occasion a defibrillator was used. Seeing this coupled with his brother passing away from a heart related problem it sparked Martin’s passion to get defibrillators in the local area. Providing them is not easy, he has to get funding, source the unit, install them, organise and pay for insurance, register each unit and organise and fund the up keep and monitoring of each one. Martin has helped raise £18024.69 and one life has already been saved in Paignton using one of the defibrillators.
