Emergency Services: Torbay Street Pastors

Torbay Street PastorsGroup of Torbay Street Pastors.

Torbay Street Pastors who are all volunteers go out in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham on Friday and Saturday nights to assist with public safety, from 22.00 to 04.00 - 4,903 hours of duty in 2015 and 32,469 hours since the scheme started in 2008.  

They assist Door Staff, Police and South West Ambulance in caring for any vulnerable person in a non-judgemental way.

The team of volunteers meet up with all age groups and provide water, 1124 bottles in 2015 alone. Flip flops 10,699 pairs to date, and basic first aid,   assistance, 347 last year, saving NHS time and money.

Whilst out the Street Pastors will also collect and dispose of glass bottles, 4736 last year. Broken glass or anything that could injure the public. 

Chief Superintendent Jim Nye of Devon and Cornwall Police said: “They assist my staff in dealing with vulnerable people and bring a calming and a reassuring influence to a sometimes hostile environment... I am continually impressed by their enthusiasm and commitment. There is no doubt they have helped reduce both incidents and crimes in the areas they work.”

Torbay Street Pastors have been nominated for this award due to their dedication and compassion to this charitable cause.
